GY-219 INA219 High-Precision I2C Digital Current Detection Sensor Module
Description:
This breakout board will solve all your power monitoring problems. Instead of struggling with two multimeters, you can simply use INA219B chip on this breakout board to measure high-side voltage and DC current over I2C with 1% accuracy .
Most current-measuring devices, such as current panel meters, are designed for low-side measurements only. This means that unless you want to avoid battery interference, you must place the measuring resistor between the target ground and the true ground. This can cause problems in circuits, as electronics don't like the ground reference voltage shifting with current. This chip is much smarter — it can handle high-side current measurements up to +26VDC , even when powered by 3 or 5V . It also reports the high-side voltage, which is useful for tracking battery life or solar panels.
The precision amplifier measures the voltage across a 0.1 ohm, 1 % sense resistor. Because the amplifier has a maximum input differential of ±320mV , it can measure currents up to ±3.2A . Using the internal 12 -bit ADC , the resolution within the ±3.2A range is 0.8mA . When the internal gain is set to the minimum value of div8 , the maximum current is ±400mA with a resolution of 0.1mA . An advanced hacker can remove the 0.1 ohm current sense resistor and replace it with their own resistor to change the range (for example, using a 0.01 ohm resistor to measure 32 amps with a resolution of 8mA ).
We've included a 6- pin header (so you can easily connect this sensor to a breadboard) and a 3.5mm terminal block plug, making it easy to connect and disconnect loads. Usage is simple. Power the sensor itself with 3 to 5VDC and connect the two I2C pins to your microcontroller. Then connect your target power supply to VIN+ and the load ground to VIN- . Now we have an Arduino library that will do all the gain, range, and math for you — just plug and play! .
